National Convention 2007
For those who fall in love with JCL at a State Convention, the week-long “Latin”
extravaganza is the next level of awesomeness to aspire to. This past year, the National Junior
Classical League Convention was held in Knoxville, TN on the University of Tennessee. Surviving
a twenty hour long bus ride, and the gruesome motel rooms, the MassJCL arrived at the
campus, ready to make new friendships, participate in national contests, and make memories
that will last for a lifetime. For all of you who have never been to a National Convention, it is
undoubtedly a prime opportunity to be connected with some of the best people, who share a
similar set of likes. There are over 50 contests in which to participate, with a wide scope of
events to choose from, whether you are artistic, have a way with words (both English and
Latin), are a superb certaminist, or a Latin braniac, the NJCL Convention is the ultimate step to
take. Once you’ve sparked friendships, cheered with props to show your state pride, or
watched a round of National certamen, you’ll be looking forward to next year’s convention, even before
this one’s over.
The Boston Latin School Junior Classical League, with seven delegates attending this
event, distinguished itself individually, with its newsletter, the Flamma Aeterna, placing 5th in
the Local newsletter contest, and with Olivia Schwob and Jacob Meister taking top honors. A
detailed listing of awards are listed below, with 10th place showings and above reported.
