This year’s MassJCL State Convention marked a historic departure from the norm, lasting for
three fun-filled days and two nights on the Cape, from April 27th to April 29th. Unfortunately, only seven
delegates from Boston Latin School were able to attend the event, but regardless, the BLS JCL did
incredibly well, receiving 4th place overall standing in the State, with a 1st place upper Certamen team
and a 2nd place intermediate team; for the first time ever, the BLS JCL won 1st place in the toga parade,
under the small division. On an individual level, the BLS JCL had members who distinguished themselves.
Olivia Schwob won 1st place in Graphic Arts statewide, and Jacob Meister won 1st place overall in
academics. From the fun dances and new friendships made, this year’s state convention was a
resounding success for the Boston Latin School Junior Classical League, although we hope to at least
triple the number of BLS JCLers attending the event. From chariot races and worm races to midnight
curfews, the Mass JCL State Convention is a highlight of the year—it showcases some of the best people
you’ll ever meet! So, mark your calendars for 2008’s convention!
